The Wyatt Family

I had the pleasure of assisting a fellow photographer on Saturday morning. This photographer and I work so well together. We bounce ideas off of one another and truly make an amazing team.  She welcomed me to shoot an amazing Chicago family. Miles, almost  4 weeks old, greeted us in a bright color Maya Wrap Baby sling. Adorable!!

And waiting around the corner was Ellis. His three year old bother.

From that moment, I knew that it was going to be a fun filled shoot. There home was amazing. So much light. A city condo, high rise, with windows in EVERY room. Unheard of.

Ellis is filled with energy. He loves his trains and knows how to use the iPad.

This beautiful table provided such a fantastic reflection.

Their bedroom was the perfect place for a little family photo.

It is so obvious how much they adore their children. It was so much fun spending time with them during this shoot.

A beautiful family

Until next time!

Audriana

Audriana is my closest cousin’s second child.  This was my first time meeting her. She is three months old and just a doll. Not to mention her older sister, Madyson, is such a big girl. Madyson held her baby sister so confidentially. Madyson looks like a replica of her mommy, and I think Audriana has a little of her daddy.

Meet audriana

Isn’t her smile contagious?

And look at how much her big sister loves her!

Eventually we wore Audriana out. She was so cute sleeping all cuddled up.

I mean — look at this face— Love this little girl!Your Fake Aunt Kimmy :)

Mason

This past weekend I returned to my hometown to walk in the Race for the Cure in memory of my mom. My mom’s sister and all her children come into town.  My cousins all have children (6 altogether).  This is the one time all year that I get to see all my cousins and their kids. Even the oldest cousin was able to come this time!!

Well, this time, both my cousin Andrea and Amy had new additions to their family. We spent the afternoon on Saturday in my Grandma’s empty living room taking picture. Mason, my youngest cousin’s newborn was first. Now that I think about it, what would my first cousin’s baby be to me? My second cousin? Not fully sure. Mason looks just like his daddy. He was such a good baby while we spent time moving him every which way.

Resting peacefully in his mothers hands

How precious is he!

Look at that little smile!! So sweet and innocent in his sleep.

The Luetje Family

Beautiful family, beautiful day!

This was a type of shoot that I wanted for my family before my mom passed away. While my dream didn’t come true, I can’t tell you how happy I am to be able to create memories for other families. This shoot was so much fun. What a happy, vibrant family. Such a pleasure to spend the evening with you. And a huge thanks to Rita Spevak for assisting me on this shoot! It is always so much fun to have an assistant and second shooter!

Heaven received an angel one year ago…

You can only have one mother
Patient kind and true;
No other friend in all the world,
Will be the same to you.

When other friends forsake you,
To mother you will return,
For all her loving kindness,
She asks nothing in return.

As we look upon her picture,
Sweet memories we recall,
Of a face so full of sunshine,
And a smile for one and all.

Sweet Jesus, take this message,
To our dear mother up above;
Tell her how we miss her,
And give her all our love.

- Irish Funeral Prayer

One year– one year– How has one year passed without her?

A year and a half ago, my dad asked me to do a photo shoot of my mom. She was 4 months into her second diagnosis of breast cancer. She was almost finished with chemo for the second time. Mom wanted to remember her fight. She wanted to be able to look back at the road she fought. Honestly, I never really looked through these pictures. I processed a couple …. but tonight, I processed all of them. I couldn’t help but including almost all of them even though they are all so similar. Mom was really uncomfortable during the photo shoot. She definitely stepped out of her comfort zone capturing these memories. I, too, stepped out of my comfort zone. I think I froze at times not knowing how to pose or capture the memories of my mom with cancer. How does one capture it correctly?

As I spent the evening sorting through this photo session, I smiled and cried. What a beautiful lady she was. Always with a smile on her face. She was the most caring person I know. Mom always put everyone before her self until the very end. A year ago on Mother’s Day mom was taken to the ER for having trouble breathing. She got her way and talked the doctor into releasing her with oxygen because her granddaughters were home celebrating Mother’s Day and her 56th birthday. Never would have imagined it would be our last birthday celebration and the last time she saw the twins. Although blurry — the last kiss captured on camera.

Words can’t really express all that I am thinking about right now. But what I can say is — she truly is the wind beneath my wings.

Off to dream about mom….
